Another Great Success!

I would like to personally thank our attendees and speakers for helping us make the 4th gathering of Political Buzz - Maryland a wonderful success!  It is so inspiring to see concerned citizens take an interest in what happens in our state and educate themselves on the issues.  Local, grassroots networking is key to making bigger things happen.

On Wednesday night we heard from Cathy Kelleher of Election Integrity Maryland about 173 cases of suspected voter fraud involving residents registering and voting in both Florida and Maryland.  This resulted from comparing records from just these two states.  Imagine what they would find by similarly cross-checking all states.

We also heard from Delegate Kelly Schulz about her formal request, dated August 12, 2013, to investigate the findings released by Election Integrity Maryland and True the Vote.  To date, she has had no response from the Maryland Board of Elections, Governor O'Malley or AG Doug Gansler.

On a separate but related note, Cathy also informed us that the Maryland Board of Elections took it upon themselves to run the voter registrations in Maryland against those in DC. This comparison identified 11,000 records - just in MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD - that needed to be verified since it appears that voters voted in both jurisdictions in the same election!

Finally, author, investigative journalist and former Congressional Candidate, Ken Timmerman, was kind enough to share his experience with the Montgomery County Board of Elections in an attempt to check the accuracy of electronic voting machines. Suffice to say, Ken's investigation did not give him any increased confidence in the results from 2012, nor in the integrity of the upcoming 2014 elections.

Because we are fighting an uphill battle to ensure the integrity of our elections, please do what you can to support Election Integrity Maryland and True the Vote.  They work hand-in-hand to identify and expose fraud that effectively nullifies your legal vote.  Voter fraud has the ability to literally change the course of history.

If you have any questions about the political boundaries in Montgomery County, about how the county and state GOP party is organized, if you have any interest in getting involved with next year's elections (or even if you don’t) please consider coming to one of the training sessions I mentioned last evening. They are held on the first Saturday of each month at the Montgomery County GOP HQs 15833 Crabbs Branch Way, Derwood (Rockville), MD. The next session will be on October 5th at 10:00 AM.
Also, please save the date - Oct 26th for the Upper Montgomery Republican Women's club party at the Golden Bull Restaurant.

Good news! We were told as we left last night that Bennigan’s is constructing another room above the main restaurant and that we would be able to use that room in the future. I think that might be the end of our quest for a good venue. We are not sure when the room will be finished and we are not sure if the porch can be made warmer in colder weather… Stay tuned we are working on the next Political Buzz and you will be the first to know!

Thanks to everyone who braved the weather last night to join us at our second gathering of Political Buzz-Maryland!  We apologize to anyone who missed us due to the very last minute venue change. Our original meeting place accidentally double-booked, so we had to quickly make arrangements nearby.  If we missed you, please try to join us next time for an evening of food, friends and a serious education on Maryland politics!  Thank you Pat and Patti for scrambling to regroup and doing it with such efficiency!  Bravo to all who pitched in to make our meeting possible.

We were very honored to have Delegates Michael Smigiel and Kathy Afzali join us to talk about the damage done during the 2013 Legislative Session and other information we need to know about.

Del. Smigiel gave us up-to-the-minute details on the O'Malley Prison Scandal.  Don't be fooled by the media coverage you are not seeing.  This is a big deal.  A gang member was running....running the Baltimore prison!  Many of his gang members were working as guards, which means there was no mechanism for screening employees arriving for work.  Drugs, money, phones and more were walked into the prison without difficulty. The few prison guards who were not gang members feared for their lives every day, as they could not depend on other guards to "have their back" in dangerous situations. (As a side note, repealing the death penalty took away any deterrent for "lifers" to commit murder within the jail.)  Needless to say, this investigation must see the light of day.  Please visit Del. Smigiel's web page for more information.  Educate yourself and then take action by contacting media outlets about this outrage and absolute failure of leadership.  Speak out now!

Attendees also heard a first hand account of Democrat vote manipulation with regard to gun control legislation.  Despite dishonesty and dirty tricks, several amendments were added at the last minute that eased the pain for Maryland gun owners.  Not that the bill itself isn't awful - it's just that our hard working Republican representatives did everything they could to make it less awful.

Frederick Delegate Kathy Afzali gave us the bad news on the new gas and rain taxes.  The gas tax will cause serious harm to lower and middle income citizens. (The very constituents Democrats claim to champion!)  As we know, much of Maryland is rural, and residents live in rural areas for many reasons. One of those reasons is that housing prices in large cities are generally unaffordable, therefore, working requires a commute. If you are already struggling to keep a roof over your head and food on your table, adding to the ever increasing cost of gas could put some families in real peril. We hope to revisit this awful new tax next session which, by the way, is tied to CPI and was designed to never go down, but always go up...without a cap!

It's  hard to believe we were actually spending time talking about a rain tax, but there we were! Due to an EPA mandate, Maryland needs to find a way to raise $14.8 billion to cut down on stormwater runoff flowing into the Chesapeake Bay.  So, instead of finding waste, fraud, abuse or other unnecessary spending, they did what they always do.  Look to us to finance every bright liberal idea.  How this will all be implemented and administered remains to be seen, but here is my advice: until further notice, do not sneak out to get the morning paper in your jammies.  Satellites will be taking photographs of your property and you don't want THAT photo to be in your permanent file!  If we knew for sure when they were photographing our property, I'm sure many of us would defiantly look up to the sky and flip 'em the bird.  But I digress.

The first gathering of Political Buzz-Maryland was a great success!  Over 35 concerned citizens came out to The Music Cafe in Damascus to hear Nicolee Ambrose, Phillip Bell and Blaine Young talk about challenges and solutions.  We were so honored to have Montgomery County Federation of Republican Women President, Patsy Dillingham join us, what a treat! 

A big thanks to Pat Fenati and Patti Witham for getting our group going, to all attendees who came out to get involved and make a difference, and, of course, to Nicolee, Phillip and Blaine for sharing their time, expertise and experience with us.   I hope many more Political Buzz-Maryland groups will spring up around the state!
